Stroke

1. What It Is

A stroke occurs when the blood supply to a part of the brain is interrupted, causing brain cells to lose oxygen and stop functioning. This can lead to sudden weakness, speech difficulties, loss of balance, or changes in vision. It can be mild or severe depending on how quickly treatment is received.

2. Causes

Biological: Blocked blood vessels (ischemic stroke) or bleeding inside the brain (hemorrhagic stroke).
Genetic: Family history of stroke or blood-clotting disorders.
Environmental: High blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, and lifestyle factors.
Most strokes result from a combination of medical and lifestyle risks.

3. Signs & Symptoms

Motor Symptoms: Sudden weakness on one side, difficulty walking, facial drooping, or poor coordination.
Non-Motor Symptoms: Trouble speaking, severe headache, dizziness, vision problems, confusion, or numbness.
